Launch of public relations course

03.09.2007

The university's Brighton Business School has been approved by Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) to offer its Advanced Certificate short course. Aimed at PR practitioners wishing to develop their skills and those interested in public relations the course leads to a recognised and certified professional qualification.

One of two CIPR-approved courses, the Advanced Certificate is a part-time, vocational course, which gives students the basic knowledge and understanding of PR theory and practice to develop as effective professionals. It is also is the only CIPR-approved higher education and vocational qualification in the UK. Advanced Certificate graduates can become Associate Members of the CIPR and go on to study the CIPR Diploma. Those Advanced Certificate graduates with three years' experience in PR will be eligible for full membership.

The qualification is provided in partnership with City & Guilds, the UK's leading provider of vocational qualifications and is awarded as a joint certificate. CIPR continues to set the syllabus, the assessment exercises, and sets the level of the award. That level is now recorded as being at National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 5, which is set and assessed at the same standard as an ordinary first degree.

The course is taught in eight contact days, each lasting six hours. To enable busy PR practitioners to attend, the course is offered on Saturdays.

"Launching this brand new CIPR course compliments the extensive portfolio of professional courses already offered by the university," said Carolyn Gosling Marketing Co-ordinator, Brighton Business School. "We continue to respond to demand from businesses and their employees to offer courses which develop people's skills."
