Applying geochemistry in environmental management
Applied geochemistry can be defined as the application of chemical and geochemical principles to address environmental, ecological, energy and resource issues. This lecture examines how studies of the chemistry and radioactive content of soils and sediments can be used to assess topics as diverse as earthquake and tsunami hazard, environmental pollution and sea-level change and how we can make use of naturally-occurring geochemical reactions to develop cost-effective and novel ways of dealing with contaminated land and waters.
