But Sam Davies, director of Development and Alumni Office, tasked with forming life-long relationships with alumni, said: “We’re thrilled with having such a large family, but we want more.

“We believe there’s another 50,000 out there that we want to bring into the fold.”

She explained: “It’s important to us to play a role in the lives of our alumni whether they graduated this year or 40 years ago. We are there for alumni in both good times and during more challenging periods – the current economic climate is a good example of this and we have invested in expanding our careers provision.

“We provide ongoing help in careers advice, professional development and networking opportunities and also organise events and reunions to allow alumni to meet up with former classmates or to attend lectures on the latest research and other activities being undertaken here today.”

Sam said the Brighton Graduation Association was using all modern means to keep in touch, including Facebook and Twitter. Anyone wanting to reconnect can visit  www.brighton.ac.uk/bga.

On the subject of former graduates, the Development and Alumni office in conjunction with the School of Education is hosting a reunion for all School of Education graduates at Falmer on Saturday, 12 September. The day will include social events, interactive presentations, campus tours and a buffet lunch.

So far, 70 graduates have booked for the event, some graduating as far back as 1958, and the majority between the years of 1968 and 1972.

A timetable for the day as well as a list of attendees is available online at www.brighton.ac.uk/alumni. Following a successful campaign to find all teaching graduates from the university, the office has increased the number of graduates from School of Education with who it is in contact by nearly 850 in the last year alone.
