The children's novelist, appointed the fifth Children's Laureate 2007-2009, will also be reading some of his own poems at the invitation-only event at the Jubilee Library in Brighton next month.

The School of Education, which provides highly-rated education courses for primary and secondary schools, decided to mark its 100th birthday by asking primary and secondary school pupils to contribute to a poetry book 'Me and the Teehee Monkey'.

The book, which will be officially launched at the event, comprises 200 poems written by children aged between five and 16 years and many of the young authors will be attending the event.

The works were selected from more than 1,500 entries and Lorraine Harrison, Head of the School of Education, said the standard was 'excellent'. She said: "It speaks volumes for the enthusiasm of the teachers who were able to inspire their students to produce such high quality work".

Michael Rosen (pictured above), was equally impressed. He said: "I think this is a really terrific collection of poems. I was shocked, surprised, amazed, intrigued, entertained, spooked, amused and plenty more".
