Crisis talk

Published 26 January 2010

Baroness Mary Warnock, who received an honorary doctorate of medicine from the university in 2008, returns next month to give a talk on democracy, morality and religion.

The philosopher of morality, education and mind, and writer on existentialism, will be at the Sallis Benney Theatre, Grand Parade, Brighton, at 6.30pm on 9 February.

Baroness Warnock, an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and of the Royal Society of Medicine, chaired the Committee of Inquiry into Human Fertilisation in the early 1980s.

Dr Bob Brecher, of the university's School of Humanities, said: "Mary Warnock is a leading public intellectual whose contributions both to philosophy and to public policy speak for themselves."

"We at The Centre for Applied Philosophy, Politics and Ethics are delighted that she is giving the second in our 2010 lecture series on 'The Crisis of Democracy'."

Theatre doors open at 6 and entrance is free to all on a first-come first-in basis.
