Brighton applications up by a third

Published 9 February 2010

The number of students applying for courses at the university through the Universities & Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) has increased by just under a third, according to figures released on Monday (8 February).

The total number of students applying to begin studies this autumn stands at 32,118, an increase of 32.6 per cent and more than 10 percentage points higher than the national average rise of 21.4 per cent.

Brighton's level of applications is now amongst the largest in the country.

Colin Monk, the University of Brighton's Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Business and Marketing, said: "It is particularly pleasing that so many people see opportunities for themselves at Brighton in these difficult economic times."

"I think it demonstrates the quality and relevance of its courses, its strong record of links with employers, and its quality of staff."

"It also reflects the attractiveness of its facilities and the city as a whole."
