Stepping up to the challenge of NHS reform
Published 15 February 2011
A key role in the government's NHS reforms in Sussex is being taken up by University of Brighton MBA graduate Amanda Fadero.
As chief executive of Sussex NHS, Amanda will work closely with local family doctors as she works with groups who will have future responsibility for the planning and buying of residents' healthcare services, ensuring a smooth transfer of responsibility from four Primary Heathcare Trusts (PCTs).
Acknowledging her new role, Amanda said: "I am delighted to have been asked to lead the NHS in Sussex through the next couple of years of change. It is a critical job to ensure that as well as supporting GP colleagues for the future, we also have to focus on the delivery of health services in Sussex today. I am looking forward to building on the progress we have made across the county to deliver even better health and care for local residents."
Amanda studied part-time for her MBA, graduating in 1996. She said: "Personal development is key to all. I have personally benefitted from a variety of opportunities, including the four years I spent at the University of Brighton in the 1990s studying part-time for an MBA.
"The university continues to have an important connection to the work NHS Brighton and Hove does across the city and to staff who commission health care for the local population."
After qualifying as a nurse, Amanda specialised in paediatrics for 10 years and the care of premature babies. She then held a series of senior management posts with Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust prior to her latest appointment.
