Joined up approach

Published 26 October 2011

Liaison work that links Sussex Police and the University of Brighton was praised as "an example for universities up and down the country".

So said Zoë Billingham, the Audit Commission's director of Community Safety and the Environment, during a visit to the university to see first-hand how the collaboration works.

Julie Barker, head of the university's Residential and Catering Services, said: "Strong and successful collaborative work has been developed to resolve community issues that arise from time to time."

Ms Billingham said the close collaboration, involving dedicated police officers assigned to work with students, was the first of its kind she had come across in the UK.
