The University of Brighton is co-sponsoring an annual celebration to mark the eve of the winter solstice.
Thousands of people will walk to Brighton seafront and then burn lanterns on the beach to observe the shortest day of the year and to greet the lengthening daylight

Burning the Clocks, the Winter Solstice Parade, sets off at 6.30pm on Wednesday, 21 December. The route will be: North Street, Ship Street, Bartholomews, East Street, and the parade finishes in Madiera Drive at 7.15 pm.
The event, organised by Same Sky, the Brighton-based community arts group, is in association with Juice 107.2FM, and is co-sponsored by The Care Home Insurance Service, The Guinness Trust, and Southern Water, and is supported by Brighton and Hove City Council, Visit Brighton and ACA Scaffolding.
