My Chemical Romance by The Chemical Brother – inaugural lecture from Professor Hal Sosabowski
Published 25 January 2012
Event 29 March 2012
How many times have you read a popular science book and not been convinced by what you've read? Or not believed an item you've seen featured in a popular science programme? The welcome resurgence in public interest and engagement in science may not be all that it seems and might eventually be the author of its own misfortune. Is this the only way?
Does 'popular' have to equate to 'spectacle without learning outcome?' Can we appeal to the public’s thirst for science presented in understandable and informative ways without resorting to the lowest common denominator? When does science spectacle become science titillation? Can we be informative and increase the influence of science in society without the usual chemistry clichés of pops, flashes and bangs.
The inaugural lecture by the University of Brighton's Professor of Public Understanding of Science, Hal Sosabowski, will enlighten, enthral and answer these questions. Come along to find out more…
