Brighton, second most applied to university in south-east

Published 31 January 2012

UCAS, the organisation responsible for managing applications to higher education courses in the UK, released yesterday the number of applications each university has received as of 15 January 2012 for entry in the 2012/13 academic year.

The figures show that the University of Brighton has already received over 28,000 applications for our 4,000 available places; this equates to seven applications for every place. This makes Brighton the second most applied to university in the south-east.

We also anticipate receiving a further 5,000 applications during the next few months. We are pleased that in the new and radically altered higher education market created by the coalition government our strong academic reputation and professional and career-focused learning environment continue to make us one of the country's most popular universities.

This year we have significantly increased interest in a wide range of subjects including pharmacy, nursing, engineering, software engineering, law and accountancy. The university has also seen a 24 per cent increase in our applications from international students.
