The Big Careers Fair
Published 8 October 2012
Brighton’s two universities have joined forces to organise one of the biggest careers fairs in the region.
More than 100 employers have signed up to exhibit at Careers Fair 2012, which is being held at the American Express Community Stadium in Falmer on 7 November between 11am and 4pm. It is expected to attract over 2,000 visitors.

Linda Buckham, Director of the Careers and Employability Centre at the University of Sussex, and Sam Rhodes, the University of Brighton's careers service manager, have worked together and with their teams to create this new event.
Linda Buckham said: "This has given us the excellent opportunity to also attract sponsorship from CGG Veritas, BDO LLP, the College of Law and Brandwatch, which we are delighted about. Employers tell us that they want to visit fairs where they will meet interesting and talented students and graduates from universities located in one city."
Sam Rhodes said: "We are now fully booked with employer exhibitors which is a fantastic achievement during a time of economic difficulty – and to do this in partnership with the University of Sussex is an excellent example of collaboration.
"Careers fairs are one of the best ways to find graduate jobs and give would-be employees opportunities to meet prospective employers face-to-face, to gain an insight into the labour market and to find out about selection procedures."
Sam and Linda believe that attending careers fairs is worthwhile at any point in the lives of students and graduates. Sam said: "Fairs are a great source of information, a great place to practise networking skills and a great place to meet useful contacts."
Careers Fair 2012 is open to all University of Brighton and University of Sussex students and graduates, plus recent graduates from other universities.
Exhibitors booked to attend represent all sectors, including law, engineering, IT, media, finance and business, overseas and not-for-profit organisations, development, communications and further study and training. Recruiting organisations, professional bodies and training providers attending include Exxon Mobil, the Body Shop, Amex, FDM, EasyJet, the Civil Service, Government Legal Service, Deloitte, Teach First, PwC, General Electric (Health Care), Capgemini, Brandwatch, Kaplan Law School, the Bar Council & Inns of Court, Knowledge Transfer Partnership, Kier and the two universities.
The fair is at maximum capacity for exhibitors but organisers are offering to add any further requests to exhibit to a reserve list, in the case of cancellations.
