Targeting Dance

Event 12 January 2013

University of Brighton students joined with local school pupils for an evening of dance at the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne.

Over the past month groups of students from the university's School of Sport and Service Management have been working on a series of performance projects with nine local schools in preparation for TARGET Dance on Saturday 12 January.

More than 200 primary, secondary and children with special needs performed dances created by the university students.

The programmes showcased curricular and extracurricular work and the work of undergraduates involved with the all-male Kick-Start and all-female Fidget dance companies.

Fiona Smith, principal lecturer with the university, said: "This was a great opportunity for pupils and our students to experience the thrills of working in a large scale theatre and, at the same time, for our students to experience the responsibility, challenges and rewards of choreographing and presenting work with children."
