Springboard Grant Programme Awards
During 2012 the Image and Analysis Unit [IAU] applied for, and was successfully awarded, Springboard Grants to fund 2 projects to enhance the student experience within the IAU laboratories.
AFM benching project
This funding enabled the installation of new laboratory benching to house a range of microscopy and surface analysis equipment.
This included the commissioning of a Digital Instruments Dimension 3000 Atomic Force Microscope [AFM] kindly donated to the IAU by local industry [Biocompatibles UK Ltd] and now available for student teaching and research project use.
Additional instrumentation also located on the new benching and available for student use include: Motic Stereo Microscope, Nikon Eclipse ME600 microscope, and Data Physics OCA Contact Angle Analysis System. Full details of the instrumentation can be found here.
Microscope digital camera project
This funding enabled the purchase of a digital imaging camera, to bring into student availability and service a Zeiss Axioskop fluorescence microscope, which had been kindly donated to the IAU by local industry [Southern Water].
The IAU thanks and acknowledges the Springboard grants programme for supporting these projects, which have provided improved student facilities available to all University of Brighton students.
The Springboard Grants Programme provides awards to current students and staff at the University of Brighton to help fund unique activities that enrich and enhance the student and staff experience. This grants programme has been established through the generosity of alumni [former students] and friends of the university. Further details can be found here.
