Research Interests
- Apoptosis signalling by nitric oxide and by cytokine-induced kinases.
- Differential gene and protein expression in rat or human islets of Langerhans.
- Mechanism of growth factor antagonism of fas and cytokine effects in vitro.
- DNA damage and repair measured following acute or chronic exposure to free radicals or cytokines.
- The role of nitric oxide synthase, heat shock proteins and free radical scavenging enzymes in beta cell damage and protection.
- Strategies to block cytokine effects in in vivo and in vitro systems, including in human islets of Langerhans and islets from animal models of diabetes.
