Facilities and equipment

Occupying the Huxley building and office space in the Cockcroft Building the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences offers a variety of state-of-the-art equipment and learning environments.

Laboratories

The school has over 20 laboratories including a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance suite and Pharmacology lab specifically designed for teaching and research and a clinical skills laboratory. Other equipment and facilities include:

  • pharmaceutical manufacturing unit
  • optical, confocal, electron and atomic force microscopy
  • 360 MHz NMR
  • mass spectrometer
  • extensive analytical equipment
  • quartz crystal resonance sensors
  • category 3 microbiological suite
  • category 2 tissue culture suite
  • extensive molecular biology facilities

Postgraduate research office

Located on the ground floor of Huxley is the research student office. Equipped with 26 allocated workstations, fax and photocopying facilities and air conditioning, this office provides a cool, quiet base for students to work.

Computer pool room

The computer pool room is located on the 5th floor of the Cockcroft building with 30 workstations installed with specialist scientific software to cater for the courses run by the school.

The suite is supported by an experienced technical team. Students have personal storage and web space on the computer suite web server.

Software at home

The majority software used on our courses can be installed at home. The computer suite technicians will be able to advise on what is currently available and how to obtain it.

Research facilities

Research grants are awarded to fund specific research projects and buy the specialist equipment required.
