The vast majority of students have given the University of Brighton top marks and would recommend the university to potential students, according to a national survey. Some 82 per cent gave the university a top rating and the figure climbed to more than 90 per cent among students on a host of courses.

The National Student Survey (NSS), published by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, showed particularly strong results for the Faculty of Science and Engineering's building and chemistry courses.

Satisfaction among students on building courses was first in the country with a score of 95 per cent. All accredited by professional bodies, the faculty's building courses are taught by staff with strong industry links and provide students with real-life experience on placement and through the pioneering Excellence with Industry programme.

The faculty's chemistry courses topped the sector average with 92 per cent of students saying they were satisfied, and building on this positive result, this September the faculty welcomed the first cohorts of the Chemistry BSc(Hons) and MChem degrees. Launched to meet demand for more chemistry graduates in the UK economy, students on these courses will benefit from placements in industry or research laboratories plus innovative teaching methods including video technology and interactive problem solving.

Professor Andrew Lloyd, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, said:

"It is clear from the survey that students value the quality and relevance of our courses and we are encouraged by the results. The university provides an excellent teaching and learning environment for students in these areas. That said, we shall be studying the results in detail to see if we can further improve the student experience.

"The NSS is a valuable tool which helps us gauge what is working well and where improvements can be made. I would like to thank all our final year students who completed the survey and all staff for contributing so positively to the student experience."
