Mairghread Ellis, Prof Doc
Professionally, it has given me a fantastic research training which has opened doors - researching in other disciplines than my own; developing new approaches to teaching qualitative research methodology at post graduate level – teaching across all healthcare and social disciplines within the uni; facilitated a voice for me to debate with/teach my own profession about the nature of professionalism.
From a personal perspective - I am now extremely comfortable with uncertainty, indeed I almost crave the challenge of it!
It has given me a different external profile to the one I had before which is opening some interesting doors. It left a void in my life (in terms of my desire to struggle with new concepts and ideas) which is now being filled by the challenge of a professional qualification in gemmology and mineralogy – in my spare time!
I hold a great belief in the ‘value’ of a professional doctorate – both professionally and personally, and consider it a unique journey with a wonderful destination.
