Widening participation
The university is committed to widening access to higher education. We undertake a number of different activities aimed at years 5 to 13 to ensure all students are informed about university and to encourage participation from under represented groups.
Widening participation activities
Years 5 and 6
- Professor C Gull - a series of interactive and fun activities introduce university to younger students.
- Mentoring.
Year 8
- ACE (Aiming for a College Education) - short, interactive sessions focussing on the independence and responsibilities of being a student in higher education.
Years 9–11
- Taster sessions - interactive sessions to help year 10 pupils decide if they might like to study a particular subject at university.
- Mentoring.
Year 12, 13 and Access students
- Student shadowing - students have the opportunity to spend half a day shadowing a University of Brighton student. You can download a Student Shadowing application form (23k pdf) here.
- Subject days - one-off events that give an insight into specific subject areas.
- Student talks - we can talk about a variety of subjects including student life, student finance and applying to university.
