Accommodation

Options for new students

We care about where you live and our aim is to ensure all our students have access to well-priced, good quality accommodation that’s right for them.

Living at home

If you are local, you may prefer to continue living at home. You won’t be alone if you choose this option – around a quarter of our students studying for a first degree live at home. You can still join in all the campus activities and you will have plenty of chances to make new friends. Some students find commuting from home easier and more cost effective.

Halls of residence

We have more than 2,000 places in university halls of residence in Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings. We offer different types of hall accommodation at some of the best prices in the south-east.

We aim to offer all first year undergraduate students who meet our application criteria a place in halls. However, due to high demand for places on our courses, we regret we cannot guarantee you a place in halls except in specific circumstances.

Homestays

Homestay means that you live in the home of a local household; this may be with a family, a couple or a single person, and can be catered or self-catered. Many students choose Homestay accommodation because it provides a supportive home environment as you settle into university life.

To find out more information on Homestays contact the Accommodation Office.

University-managed house or flat (Unihomes)

We manage more than 300 rooms in shared houses and flats in Brighton & Hove, Eastbourne and Hastings. These properties – known as Unihomes – are privately owned but we have signed a contract with the owners to manage the properties on their behalf. This means that you deal with and pay your rent to the university.

Private accommodation

Renting private accommodation lets you choose your location and the people you live with. You might prefer the independence and flexibility this offers.  If you do choose this option, we can support and advise you. We run a house-hunting service over the summer and will give you access to Studentpad, our online house-hunting system to help students and prospective students find good quality accommodation.
