Understanding the world's largest rivers
Big rivers dominate the world's continental surface, yet we are still learning about how they operate and whether they are explicably different, not only from one another but also from smaller rivers.
Professor Phil Ashworth from the University of Brighton, is investigating how the biggest rivers in the world operate, and how they sculpt the earth's surface. This research, funded by the Natural Environment Research Council, is key if we are going to tackle major environmental, social and economic issues such as flooding and infrastructure collapse.
