Responding to child to parent violence (CPV)

Applications are invited for an MPhil two year funded studentships for a suitably qualified student to conduct research into the gendered aspects of child to parent violence.

'Responding to child to parent violence (CPV)' is a European project designed to address practice intervention on the emerging problem of CPV and will assess the effectiveness of two existing intervention models (Break4Change and Non Violent Resistance) from a violence against women (VAW) perspective across five European countries (Spain, Sweden, Bulgaria, Ireland and the UK). The current evidence base lacks the consideration of the gender dimensions of CPV and it is this aspect that the research studentship will address.

The MPhil studentship is available from February 2013 under the supervision of Dr Paula Wilcox. Funding covers tuition fees and a student stipend of £18,746. The students will be registered for a MPhil with the Crime, Resistance and Security research cluster in the School of Applied Social Science, University of Brighton. The School offers a vibrant research culture for staff and students working both within and across the disciplines of sociology, psychology, social policy, politics and criminology and in the practice-based fields of social work, counselling and psychotherapy and substance misuse. Research students are well-provided for, with regular educational meetings, conferences and multidisciplinary supervisory panels.
