Professor Julie Scholes
Julie's clinical background is in critical care nursing. Since 1987 she has been in nurse education and since 1993 her primary role has been in research. Julie's research interests include the acquisition of competence, facilitating expertise for new roles in practice and patient involvement in innovation. She has undertaken research for a large range of clients from national and international public sector funders to private investors.
Julie's recent research has explored decision making under stressful situations in the simulation environment. She is author of 'Expertise in critical care practice', editor-in-chief of Open Nursing Journal, Co-editor of Nursing in Critical Care and Chair of the Faculty Ethics and Governance Committee.
She supervises students in the following areas:
- Recognition of deterioration
- Decision making in critical care, midwifery, sport science teaching and by 2nd year medical students
- Grounded Theory and dimensional analysis
- Contemporary practice
- Future services
- Becoming a father in NICU
