Biography
Jo has been teaching and leading sports-related degrees for over 20 years. Jo became Head of Chelsea School in 2006, having previously been the Head of similar departments at Aberystwyth and Roehampton.
Jo has a BSc from Loughborough and a PhD from Nottingham Medical School.
In 2000 he was made a Fellow of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.
Jo has published more than 30 academic papers, and three books, associated with his research. He has worked with many sports people applying sports science to performance including Olympic and Commonwealth gold medallists and world cup winning teams. Jo also has an interest in how exercise can help weight control and health. He is the inventor of the “calorie map” and has produced maps for many organisations in England and Wales.
Jo joined Brighton from the University in Aberystwyth where he was also Director of R & D for the local NHS Trust. He has worked with the Welsh National Assembly on exercise and public health, and is co-director of a large exercise scheme in Ceredigion for cardiac patients and patients referred for exercise by their G.P. due to conditions such as high blood pressure, overweight, diabetes etc.
