Biography
Susan is a Chartered Marketer specializing in fashion retail marketing strategies. Recently she has studied an MA History of Design and Material Culture focusing on historical department store marketing and the use of spectacular events as a competitor strategy.
At the University of Brighton Susan teaches Retail Marketing, Retail Fashion, Retail Consultancy, and Project Management for Events. She also teaches at the EcĂ´le de Normandy in France and University of Wittenborg in the Netherlands.
Working as a marketing consultant for 20 years Susan has undertaken market research projects, provided training and advised on business growth strategies. Susan has worked on organizational projects in the public and private sectors; advising on marketing planning, communications campaigns, e-marketing, and market segmentation.
The most recent project was a KTP for the 10:10 marketing campaign, raising awareness about climate change and stimulating local initiatives to reduce environmental impact.
Susan founded the networking group Creative Fashion Forum in 2005, designed to bring together a group of fashion retailers, designers and educators. The main aim is to share experiences and knowledge in order to innovate, problem solve and have a safe place in which to discuss the challenges of working in this fast changing world. Regular meetings are held in Brighton featuring professionals in branding, visual merchandising, digital marketing, ethical fashion, vintage, agency distribution, textile sourcing and financial management.

Susan continues her studies in historical marketing. Recent conference papers include:
Barkers Fashion Display Hall - issues of retailing and marketing fashion as luxury in a London department store 1928 to 1930.
Re-writing Retail Marketing History: How Barkers department store used integrated marketing and the spectacle of the Fashion Show to position themselves as a luxury store: case study Barkers Kensington 1928-1930.
