Culinary Arts Studio receives five stars for food hygiene

The Culinary Arts Studio at the School of Service Management has scored the highest rating of 5 in the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. The Culinary Arts Studio is the school’s hospitality research laboratory. It enables our students and researchers to engage in work place simulations, and food sensory evaluation and consumer research.
The National Food Hygiene Scheme is developed by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in partnership with local authorities.

The aim is to provide members of the public with easily accessible information on food hygiene standards to allow them to make a more informed choice of where to eat out or shop for food.
Eastbourne Borough Council’s food safety team introduced the scheme across the area from 4 April 2011.
The scheme means that food premises in Eastbourne will be given a rating based on their food hygiene with the Culinary Arts Studio achieving the highest grade.

To celebrate their achievement representatives from the school attended an event with 65 other local businesses who also achieved the highest grade.
The award was received by Ken Woodward, senior lecturer in hospitality on behalf of the Culinary Arts Studio and the Brighton Hospitality Research Group. Ken said: “This Hi Five Award represents a lot of hard work by the Culinary Arts Studio staff and our International Hospitality Management students over the last few years. Being recognised as one of the best food premises in Eastbourne is a real accolade, but it does not make us complacent, we always strive for excellence in the Culinary Arts Studio.”
The award reflects the high standards of culinary experience and research our hospitality management team strive for at all times.
