Justin Campaign at Brighton

Published 9 May 2012

On the 14th anniversary of Justin Fashanu's death, The Justin Campaign, Football 4 Peace and the University of Brighton's Chelsea School of Sport carried out a football festival of joy and commemoration.

The event, part of a two-day festival on 2 and 3 May in the university campus, featured 12 five-a-side teams, who played not just to win, but to raise awareness on homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in football.

The participants wore fancy costumes to highlight the importance of equality on the pitch and the spirit of tolerance and respect.

"There's no place for homophobia in society and there's no place for it in football", said a player to sum up the overall opinion at the site.

Awards were given for fairplay and game results.

After the football, participants and promoters headed inside the Chelsea School campus to see a 30-minute documentary about the life of Justin Fahsanu.
