Launch of 'Odyssey', the University of Brighton's first Travel and Tourism Society
Published 3 May 2012
The University of Brighton’s first society for travel and tourism students has been launched. ‘Odyssey’, is run for students, by students, with the specific objective of helping it's members to experience the industry while still studying, enhancing both their degree course and their employability when they leave university.
Other objectives of the society include developing strong links with the travel and tourism industry, both locally and further afield, informing students about future job prospects, improving industry knowledge and to augment members marketing, PR and communication skills.

Jan Kunert.
With monthly newsletters and regular meetings and events, it is hoped that the Odyssey will improve communications between both lecturers and students and as members take the first steps from university to work, that the society will grow to become a great source of information for current students and alumni. Odyssey is already working with Eastbourne Council, The National Trust and the University of Brighton’s Development and Alumni department.
George Svanias, president of Odyssey said: “This idea came in with a very specific objective. Let students know what is waiting for them in the outside world, but in the meantime have fun at the university with this course.”
