Lizzi Rummens named ITT Student of the Year

Published 2 August 2012

International Tourism Management BA(Hons) student Lizzi Rummens has won the 2012 Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) Student of the Year.

The award named the Bella Rangel Callan Award for the ITT Student of the Year, offers lecturers the opportunity to nominate their best students.

Lizzi felt it was a huge honour for her to be nominated by her lecturers for the award and she was delighted to win. She said: “I accepted the award at the ITT summer cocktails evening held at the Houses of Parliament, I was very nervous to accept the award at such a prestigious venue in front of people from the industry.

“The evening was a fantastic opportunity to meet industry representatives; it gave me an amazing opportunity to network with a wide variety of businesses. The evening included meeting Bella who started up the award, and who is hugely recognised and respected within the industry. She told me all about her personal journey in working in travel, which was very interesting.

“My four-years studying at university and receiving such a recognised award has helped to develop a number of skills and has also given me opportunities to personally and academically assist me in reaching my long term goals.

“I am just at the start of my journey in travel. I have started working as a business travel consultant for American Express. I hope one day I can help a student with their future, like Bella has helped me with mine.”
