Retail students prepare for national final

Published 16 February 2012

A team of students from the School of Service Management are preparing for the national final of the Charted Institute of Marketing (CIM) “The Pitch” competition.

This year’s challenge is to develop an innovative diabetes awareness campaign and pitch this to a panel of leading industry judges.

The successful students – Dominic Stark, Callum Kearney and Lucy Townson, will be pitching their campaign idea at the national final held at the International Diabetes Awareness Conference in Glasgow on the 7 and 8 March.

The team got through to the final after winning the CIM southern regional competition.

The judging panel at the southern regional competition included the CIM’s chief executive officer, the world’s leading consultant on diabetes, head of the NHS diabetes research unit, and a medical professor from the University of Oxford.

Senior lecturer and retail course leader, Dan Bennett said: “It was a fantastic day and I am really proud of the work that Dom, Callum and Lucy did. They held their own in a very stressful, challenging and competitive environment, having put together a campaign of real creativity and strategic thinking. Good luck to them in the final”
