The Pitch National Runners Up

A team of School of Sport and Service Management Retail Marketing students were eventual runners up at the National Final of the Chartered Institute of Marketing's The Pitch competition.
Pitching at the National Diabetes Awareness Conference in Glasgow, the team were one of four finalists selected from 45 entrants nationwide, and entered the final as the Southern Region Champions. Their national campaign to raise awareness of diabetes was well received by the judges and conference audience and only just lost out to a team of masters students from the University of Huddersfield.
The team of second year undergraduates - Dominic Stark, Callum Kearney and Lucy Townson – presented a bold campaign with the aim of achieving a 40 per cent increase in diabetes awareness amongst the UK population, and were congratulated for their strategic vision and creative thinking.
Callum said: "it was a great couple of days in Glasgow and even though we were runners up, we can be really proud of the work we did. To get to the national final and compete against masters and final year students, whilst we are only in our second year, is a massive achievement, and we still have our southern region crown to defend this time next year".
Deputy Head of School, Paul Frost commented: "I know the team are probably disappointed but a group of second years coming in as runners up in a national competition is a great result. We are all very proud of them and I am sure that they will be right up there again next time round. This is a fantastic result for them, the course, the school and the university."
The other two teams in the final were the University of Leeds and Central Lancashire University.
