Golf Development Programme

Developed in 2010, the Golf Development Programme (CSGDP) provides golf-specific physical and mental skills training to elite junior golfers. In our previous work with Sussex Downs Golf College, the CSGDP provided strength and conditioning, movement screening, lifestyle management, nutritional analysis, and on-course psychology sessions for golfers on the AASE programme.

Players are provided with training packs which help to meet key criteria for both their NVQ and BTEC academic modules. The packs also contain a wealth of information on key sport science support areas for golf.

The Golf Development Programme has been designed to equip you with the tools to maximise your potential. Using sport science theory and application, you will gain valuable knowledge, learn new skills, and experience elite level support. We will show you how you can transfer these skills onto the course for improved performance.

Sport Science and Golf

Traditionally, golf has been seen as a gentleman’s game with little need for physical, nutritional or psychological intervention. However in modern times the need for physical and mental preparation has increased radically. This is largely due to improvements in club and course technologies that allow players to swing harder and faster, hit the ball further and play more frequently on increasingly longer courses. In addition, many of the world’s top players have realised the need for physical and mental preparation and this is beginning to filter down to county and junior levels.

Because of this, golf is becoming a more athletic pursuit, and therefore, you should train like an athlete. Proper physical and mental conditioning should not only improve your performance on the course, but decrease your chance of injury, and improve your general health and feelings of wellbeing.

This is your opportunity to get ahead of your opponents

There are many variables that allow for successful performance in golf. The golf swing is a complex blend of biomechanical, physiological and psychological processes. Because of this, it can only be beneficial to develop an understanding of what is happening to you when you swing a club and how to improve.
