Dance

Dance is a thriving area of activity within the university. Physical Education students study dance at level 1 and 2.

This involves learning about dance as a popular social and cultural activity, studying the work of professional dance artists, improving your ability as a performer and choreographer, and learning why and how to teach dance within the school context.

There is the opportunity to study additional modules at level 3 which focus on technique, choreography and preparing to teach GCSE dance. Outside of the curriculum there are further chances to dance.

End of year performance

The most memorable part of studying dance for many students, both experienced and those new to dance, is the 'end of module' performance.

These performances take place in our large studio which we set up as a theatre, and which friends and family are welcome to attend.

Dance festival

Former students, local artists and staff lead choreographic projects. We host regional school dance festivals and platforms for examination candidates, and present evenings of dance at theatres in the area.

Students from the university receive invitations to perform at local, regional and national events.

Dance companies

We have two dance companies; the all-female Fidgit dance company and the all-male Kick-start dance company.

The companies work both separately and together.
