Games
Physical Education BA(Hons) with QTS course puts equal emphasis on all six national curriculum activity areas.
We recognise that Games is an area that is regarded as being particularly important by many schools both within curricular and extra-curricular time.
There is abundant opportunity to develop personal performance and teaching skills across a range of games during the course.
Compulsory modules
The compulsory games modules are:
Year 1, Foundation Games (level 1), which includes generic games principles, cricket, hockey and tennis.
Year 2, Curriculum Games (level 2), is a module devoted to teaching strategies across a range of invasion, striking and fielding, and divided court games.
In addition to these modules there is a selection of Games choice modules to opt for in years 3 and 4.
At level 2 Invasion Games and Net Games are offered, and at level 3 specialisms in hockey, netball, football, rugby, cricket, tennis and basketball.
The majority of these modules are dual-accredited, incorporating a governing body coaching award within the programme.
University teams
There is a wide range of University teams and clubs offering competitive and recreational games activities.
In recent years the netball, men's hockey and cricket teams have reached national finals and our cohort of students has included full internationals in netball, cricket and lacrosse.
Facilities
Facilities for Games are excellent with a 3G Astroturf, tennis courts, and a sports hall.
Games have always been an important part of our profile and this is reflected in opportunities afforded to students both within the course and the extra-curricular programme.
