Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
All tear 1 Physical Education students undertake 78 hours of outdoor and adventurous activities.
This involves navigational exercises, team-building and trust games, problem-solving scenarios, decision-making activities, camp craft and raft building
It culminates in a lightweight camping expedition in groups of 4.
Skiing and snowboarding
You have the option of undertaking skiing and snowboarding performance and teaching awards, in Italy, through the British Association of Skiing Instructors (BASI).
Orienteering
In year 2 The British Orienteering Federation (BOF) delivers four lectures for all Year 2 trainees.
All trainees successfully completing the module receive the BOF Level One Coaching Award. Lecture 8 focuses on using ICT in orienteering.
Local school partnerships
Pupils from a local partnership junior school in Eastbourne are involved in a teaching episode for this aspect of the module.
The module culminates with all year 8 pupils from a university partnership community college taking part in an all day OAA event run entirely by year 2 students.
Watersports
You will also have the option of attending a one week's residential experience in Cornwall where you complete at least two NGB Awards in windsurfing, sailing, surfing and canoeing.
Leadership and teaching
In either year 3 or 4 you may choose to undertake 20 hours of leadership and teaching experience at alicensed outdoor activity centre working with both children and adults of all abilities.
You will learn about the requirements of and have the opportunity to take the Basic Expedition Leaders Award.
