Our Sport Journalism course equips you with the knowledge and skills to work in this exciting industry.

We have brought together a strong group of academics and practitioners who are well qualified to deliver a dedicated course in Sport Journalism.

We offer an invaluable and balanced blend of theory and practice – training in shorthand, reporting, feature writing and multimedia sit alongside contextual teaching covering sport and politics, sport and the media, media law, central and local government.

Professional and industry links

The course is accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), the gateway to the industry in the UK.

Placements

You are encouraged to participate in as much industry-related work experience as possible.

We offer a broad array of regular placements at leading media outlets such as the Daily Mail, the Guardian, Arsenal football club, Hayters, the country’s leading sports agency and Givemefootball.com.

Facilities

We have two newsrooms, both equipped with the latest technology.

You will have access to the latest software, which allows you to design pages in the same manner as national newspaper and magazine journalists.

Students run the course webzine, Overtime which enables you to practice your skills in real time for public consumption.

Graduate outcomes

Graduates have gone on to carve careers across the industry – on national, provincial and local newspapers, in magazines, broadcasting and on the web, at football clubs and with sporting governing bodies.

Graduates work at The Sun, Sky Sports News, International Cricket Council and Chelsea football club.

Other graduates have gone into teaching, recruitment and public relations at institutions ranging from the NHS to the BBC.
