English language support
We offer free English language tuition to all our international and EU students in their first year of study.
Classes in the English Language Support Programme (ELSP) are held weekly on each of our main campuses. The programme can help you to:
- complete written assignments
- develop seminar skills
- understand lectures in English
- develop the spoken communication skills needed for everyday life.

'Self-access' language learning facilities
We also have a number of 'self-access' language learning facilities, which we encourage students to use to further develop their skills. These are located in the Open Learning Centre in the Checkland Building on the Falmer campus.
Extended masters programme
The extended masters route allows you to combine a masters degree with an English language course. You can typically obtain a single UK visa to cover both parts.
Depending on your current language level you will study English for between two and four months before starting your masters course. The extended masters is available on the following courses:
- International Event Management MSc
- International Hospitality Management MSc
- International Tourism Management MSc
- Tourism and Social Anthropology MA
- Tourism and International Development MSc
