International orientation programme
The International Orientation programme in Eastbourne takes place in the week before student week and is designed to help international students settle into a new country and campus.
The programme is provided for undergraduate and postgraduate students at all of the Eastbourne-based schools of the University of Brighton:
- School of Sport and Service Management
- School of Healthcare Professions
University and Eastbourne town tours
Current students act as group leaders in activities including campus and town tours and shopping trips. Group leaders are also there to provide support for new students and share their own experiences of life in a new country.
Talks and advice
Informative talks are offered on topics including:
- looking for accommodation
- healthcare issues in the UK
- sports and recreation
- safety and security
Get online
Students are also provided with opportunities to enrol online, gain access to university computing services and send important emails home.
Eastbourne welcome dinner
A highlight of the week is the Eastbourne welcome dinner, which offers an informal chance to meet teaching and administrative staff from each of the schools, as well as fellow international students who will be based in Eastbourne.
Trip to Brighton
Students also get the chance to meet international students from across the university, members of the international office and the president of the student union. A bus takes everyone to Brighton for the formal welcome by the Vice Chancellor, followed by a wine reception and dancing to a live band.
In the week after the international orientation week you will have a chance to meet your fellow students from the UK. During this week you will also meet your tutors, receive timetables, handbooks and advice on languages and placements. One of the highlights of this week is the 'Walk in the woods', which traditionally takes place on Thursday.
