Undergraduate admissions

This page tells you about the undergraduate application process at the School of Sport and Service Management.

Before you apply

In October and June, the school runs open days. These events are an opportunity for you to tour the campus, attend subject presentations, view the facilities and have a look at our student accommodation.

They are aimed at prospective undergraduate students.

You've submitted your UCAS form. What happens next?

UCAS process your form and it will be sent to the university.

First of all it will go to our registry and then it will be sent to us at the school. It will probably take about four weeks to reach us after you have sent it to UCAS.

We aim to turn your application round and inform you of a decision within a fortnight of receipt here in the school.

What do we base our decision on?

In making our decision we assess all aspects of your application. We use the UCAS tariff, which means that we accept a range of qualifications (both UK and abroad).

Our offer will consist of a certain number of points and usually particular A-level or BTEC grades.

Please note that it is your responsibility to check which qualifications are included in the tariff, by contacting either UCAS or the university.

Who will receive an offer?

If you provide a good application for your chosen degree and we believe that you have a chance of achieving the necessary examination entry requirements, we will make you a conditional offer.

This means that there will be a place for you as long as you are able to achieve the grades/qualifications detailed in your offer.

If you have already achieved sufficient UCAS points, we may make your offer unconditional. This means that you have a place irrespective of any other qualifications you may be taking.

In the case of Physical Education, in the first instance you will receive an invitation to attend an interview based upon your UCAS application.

If you are categorised as a ‘mature student’, your entry requirements might differ from those applicants coming straight from Further Education. Please contact us to discuss you pathway into university education.

Individual offers may vary, but typical offers are detailed on our website, and in our school brochure and university prospectus.

Please be aware that the university prospectus is printed more than a year in advance and so offer levels may have changed.

How are you notified about our decision?

Our registry will notify UCAS of our decision. You will be able to access information about your application status via their website.

After you have been made an offer

If we make you an offer, you will be invited to one of our course-specific, post-application open days.

These are held on either Wednesdays or Saturdays in the spring. Here you will have the opportunity to find out much more about your course and life as a student at the school, meet your lecturers and current students, walk around the campus, and get information on issues such as finance and accommodation.

If you are applying for Physical Education, you will be invited for interview. This will consist of both practical and formal elements.

The decision following your interview will show on UCAS within three days. You will not need to come for an interview if you are applying for our other undergraduate courses unless there are special circumstances, e.g. if you are a mature student returning to Higher Education without formal academic qualifications.

Selecting your institution

The Physical Education interviews and post-application open days take place  before you have to make your final decision with UCAS regarding your firm and insurance choices.

As soon as you accept your offer from the university you will be able to explore the various accommodation options available in Eastbourne.

Keeping in touch

Please feel free to correspond by email with our student ambassadors and sign up to receive the School of Sport and Service Management newsletter.

Applicants who are made offers will also be able to access the school's dedicated Facebook page.

Processing results

We will confirm which students have been allocated places on courses at the school from the day on which A-level results are published in the middle of August.

If you get exactly what is specified in your offer you are guaranteed a place.

If you did not get your grades, but are very close, there may be a chance that we can offer you a place as well – it will depend on how full the course is.

Please check with UCAS in this instance. If you are waiting on additional qualifications that are announced later in the month (e.g. GCSEs) and have met the other components of your offer, we will hold your place until all results are known.

Clearing

A decision regarding whether School of Sport and Service Management courses will enter clearing will be made in August. If this is the case, this will be announced through the usual channels (i.e. UCAS, University of Brighton website, broadsheet press, etc.).

Before you arrive

Before coming to the university you will receive pre-arrival information telling you all you need to know about starting life at the university.

You will also be able to access the new student guide on the university website.
