Environmental and hypoxic chambers

Our environmental chamber can control ambient temperature (-20 to +50°C) and relative humidity (20 to 95 per cent), thereby simulating different climates.

We can also investigate heat acclimatisation strategies, areas of cold exposure survival and precooling manoeuvres to examining how the body copes during extreme environments. Our hypoxic chamber allows exercise in a reduced oxygen environment thereby stimulating the effects of high altitude. We can investigate how sports performance will be affected and how mountain climbers acclimatise.

Hypoxic chamber

Our hypoxic chamber can allow exercise to take place in a reduced oxygen environment, thereby simulating the effects of high altitude.

We can investigate how hypoxia influences sports performance, why some mountaineers tolerate altitude better than others and if hypoxia can help individuals with type 2 diabetes or who are obese.
