Work experience
Work placements are part of almost all courses at the School of Sport and Service Management.
This experience will help you stand out when you graduate as you will be able to provide evidence of why you are suited to a particular job.
Benefits of work experience
Work placements can be a significant part of your education and career development, alongside the more formal study of the degree course.
Placements are a great way to build your confidence. Resolving challenges in the workplace is a great learning experience that can give you more to talk about both in your CV and in interviews.
As well as providing an opportunity to apply theory to real-life situations, doing work placements helps you to build industry contacts that will be invaluable when you graduate.
A number of students have been offered full-time positions on completion of their studies with their placement organisation.
There also are a number of graduates coming back to offer current students work placement opportunities.
48-week work placement
Undergraduate courses in events, hospitality, tourism, travel and retail include an optional 48-week work placement.
Students who take a 48-week placement in industry are a step ahead when it comes to securing the right job after graduation.
You graduate with a year’s relevant work experience, which gives you a distinct advantage over other graduates.
