Sustainable Tourism in Local Economies (STILE)
STILE’s mission is to generate new knowledge on ways in which tourism can play a key role in ‘good change’ by stimulating local economies, conserving the environment, developing people and positively impacting on lives.
Tourism, space and place
Space and place together with time are central to the ways in which people orientate themselves in the world. As people inhabit, organise and classify space they transform it into a meaningful world of places, things and activities. One such activity is that of tourism. We seek to explore the spaces, places and ‘things’ of tourism for what they may reveal about self, other and the wider world
Ethics, responsibility and sustainable consumption in tourism, leisure and hospitality
This research theme addresses the key ethical dilemmas facing those involved in the production and consumption of tourism, leisure and hospitality services. Through a range of research projects the academics in this group aim to offer insight and greater understanding of the challenging issues involved in these areas, with a view to developing sustainable solutions for all the major stakeholders involved.
