Social work learning and teaching with Local Authority partners

All social work courses in the school at qualifying and at post-qualifying level are developed and delivered with three local authorities: Brighton & Hove City Council, East Sussex County Council and West Sussex County Council. These partnerships are of long standing and ensure that social work education and training are relevant and up to date for today's practitioners and those of the future.

Representatives of the local authorities sit on the school's MSc Social Work and Post-Qualifying Social Work Management Group, which advise the Head of School and Social Work Co-ordinator on the ongoing running of courses.

For many years the school has run training for Approved Social Workers: the introduction of the Approved Mental Health Professional role under the Mental Health Act 2007 has widened this role to other health professions and as a result, the school is pleased to be working also with Sussex Partnership NHS Trust. In collaboration with the Brighton and Sussex Medical School Institute of Postgraduate Medicine, the school runs continuing professional development days for professionals approved under the Mental Health Act (s12 Approved Doctors and Approved Social Workers).
