Background

Aidan completed his PhD thesis at Queen's University, Belfast in 2007 under the supervision of Prof. Antje Wiener. His thesis examined the political representation of Roma in the domestic (Hungary and Romania) as well as the transnational political contexts and asked whether those who claim to speak on behalf of Roma do so legitimately.

Previously Aidan worked in Brussels for a lobbying organisation and also for the European Centre for Minority Issues in Germany. Following his PhD Aidan worked as Research Associate at the University of Ulster on a project which examined the relationship between political parties and minority ethnic communities in Northern Ireland. He took up the post of Lecturer in Politics at the University of Brighton in September 2008. In December 2009, Aidan was awarded one of the faculty's Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships.

Teaching

Aidan teaches on the politics modules including 'What is Politics? Politics in Brighton', 'Political Ideas' and 'Comparative Politics'. He also contributes to various postgraduate programmes.
