Counselling and psychotherapy

The school offers a range of counselling courses from introductory to doctorate level.

Those with little or no experience of counselling may join our degree module – Developing a Therapeutic Alliance. This module may also appeal to those who use counselling skills in their present work or intend to work in a helping capacity. The module provides an introduction to some of the ideas from both person-centred and psychodynamic theory, and may help students to choose which path for further study they wish to undertake. It also provides the necessary 30 hours counselling skills required for entry onto our postgraduate diplomas.

Our well-established postgraduate diplomas provide professional training and education in counselling. Applicants can choose to follow a programme in either humanistic therapeutic counselling or psychodynamic therapeutic counselling. Successful completion will provide the basis for professional accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy when combined with a period of post-qualifying supervised practice.

We also offer a masters in Psychotherapeutic Counselling that provides the opportunity to deepen and broaden knowledge in this area and is intended for those who seek to make psychotherapeutic work their primary activity. Our Professional Doctorate in Counselling and Psychotherapy is aimed at senior counsellors and psychotherapists, and allows students to combine part-time university study with work-based research.
