Lecturer chosen as first chair of higher education substance misuse association

Daren Britt, Senior Lecturer in Substance Misuse has been elected as the first Chair of the Association of Higher Education Programmes in Substance Misuse.

The Association of HE Programmes in Substance Misuse (AHEPSM) was formed in 2009. It comprises representatives from addiction and substance misuse-related programmes that are currently run within higher education in the UK. At present 30 universities in the UK run addiction and/or substance misuse related programmes and 23 of these universities have representatives on the AHEPSM.

The association aims to:

  • Promote quality HE and training in substance misuse
  • Develop the substance misuse sector to improve outcomes
  • Support the development of theory and practice
  • Widen the inclusion of training and education on substance use in allied professions and disciplines

Members of the association are also involved in the continuing development of addiction and substance misuse content in the training of allied and associated professions, such as social work, nursing, and medicine.
