Peter Squires, Professor of Criminology and Public Policy, has recently travelled to Budapest and Bologna with representatives of Sussex Police, the Metropolitan Police and Oxford University. As part of the work of the European Forum for Urban Safety (EFUS), they have been investigating the role of CCTV in European city centres.
The aim of this project is to collect evidence of CCTV good practice, to develop protocols, and to establish an EU charter concerning the appropriate use and development of CCTV that is in line with human rights legislation.
Professor Squires will contribute a preface and a 'lessons learned' chapter for the EFUS CCTV in Europe publication that will be launched along with the EU Charter in Rotterdam towards the end of May.
