Jem Price, a senior lecturer in the school, is currently undertaking research looking at the perspectives of social workers on the purpose and transferability of social work in an international context. His particular focus is on journeys from the Philippines to England.
Jem travelled to Manila earlier in the year and spent five weeks interviewing social work practitioners, educators and policy makers. He was particularly pleased to speak at the National Forum of the Philippine Association of Social Workers Council of Chapter Presidents in Quezon City.
After his study visit to the Philippines, Jem travelled to Taiwan, where the school has long-standing links with National Chi Nan University in Nantou County. Jem gave a lecture there to a group of Taiwanese social work students and also visited the National Dong Hwa University in Hualien County and Tunghai University in Taichung where, again, he met with staff, visited local social care providers and contributed to teaching.
Jem completed his trip in Hong Kong, where he presented at the Joint World Conference on Social Work and Social Development.
Since returning to the UK, Jem has interviewed Filipino social workers based here and is currently analysing the data he collected on his travels. Jem would be happy to hear from anyone interested in his research on J.M.S.Price@brighton.ac.uk
