Staff from the School of Applied Social Science and our Community University Partnership Programme have recently published a report exploring the 'connectedness' of today's young people with their communities and with community agencies.

The report, 'Youth and Community: Connections and Disconnections', was compiled in partnership with the Crew Club (Brighton), the East Brighton Community Crime Prevention Forum, and the North Laine Community Association. It forms part of the 'Connected Communities' Project, a cross-council programme led by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC).

The report provides evidence of the complex and 'ambiguously connected' lives of young people in poor communities today. As part of the research, a series of meetings were held in which community members, including young people, highlighted the sense of dis-connection and social fragmentation they are experiencing as a result of political decisions that have led to a loss of community resources and a diminishing 'commitment to welfare'.
