Congratulations to all our students from the School of Applied Social Science (SASS) who were among more than 5,000 University of Brighton students who recently graduated at the Brighton Dome.
The Hamilton-Cramp Prize, named after a former head of the school, is awarded to students who have shown outstanding academic achievement and overall contribution to the SASS community.
This year, this prestigious award was presented to two well deserving joint winners:
Michael Bryden, Criminology and Social Policy BA(Hons), and Richard Renson, Politics and Applied Psychology BA(Hons)
Michael’s nomination read: “Michael is a hard working and conscientious student with exemplary attendance. He has worked with us at open days and was particularly good at working with prospective mature students, putting their minds at ease about coming to university.”
Richard’s nomination read: “A very engaged student who played a full part of the academic community where he proactively contributed as student helper for the IT Skills for the Social Sciences module. Richard was also a student ambassador at open days and student rep; he will go a long way. “
Dr Dawn Stephen, assistant head of the School of Applied Social Science, said: “They are extremely worthy winners and I am terribly proud of them both.”
Michael is staying on to study for a masters degree in Criminology, and had this to say about the University of Brighton,
“I think the University of Brighton attracts the best students from all over the world, giving fantastic diversity to the student population, and providing many different life experiences, vital to ensuring an enjoyable university experience. I highly recommend the University of Brighton, and in particular Criminology and Social Policy as the undergraduate course to study, I love it here so much I am coming back to do my Masters in Criminology.”
